Book Club: A Book of a Thousand Days!

Hey guys!

We had fun the other night talking about The Giver. Okay, so maybe we weren't just talking about The Giver. But it was great company, good food and some really entertaining background noises as Deaf Hubs was going to sleep while 2 1/2 of my children were screaming at the top of the staircase. It was glorious!

Really, it was. I love it!

So next month Kellie Hood chose to read "A Book of a Thousand Days" by Shannon Hale. Here is the teaser:

When Dashti, a mucker from the steppes of Titor's Garden, one of the 8 Realms, becomes Lady Saren's maid, she enters into a struggle between Saren and her father. The Lord of Titor's Garden has declared that his daughter will marry Lord Khasar of Thoughts of Under, when Saren reveals that she has betrothed herself to the young Khan Tegus of Song for Evela. To tame his daughter, Saren's father shuts her and Dashti, the only maid willing to accompany Saren, in a tower far away from his city. He claims he will only release them after seven years, or if Saren will relent and marry Khasar. See what happens when her father never comes back and the two girls are left alone in the tower with out any knowledge of his death.

Remember we meet on the second Tues of the month, making that June 14th.
Hope to see you next month!!

ASL Class specifics

There is an error on the DATES of the ASL class that we are doing...but not the DAYS.

So the ASL Class that we are teaching will be:
June 14, 16, 21, 23. (Those are Tuesdays and Thursdays.)
The times will be 1-1:45pm.
It's a total of $25/child. Unless you have more than one child. Then it is $20 every child after that.
We will be giving out a DVD to help review and practice.

We have about 10 kids, so we are just going to combined the class and split them up during practice time.

There is still room if you are interested.

Baked Potato Soup

For those who were able to attend the "Mother's day out" activity on Saturday, here is the recipe for the Bake Potato Soup. I would say whose recipe it is, but I got it a few friends removed from the person who originally had the recipe. Hope you all enjoy!

Baked Potato Soup
4 large potatoes
2/3 cup butter
2/3 cup flour
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp seasoned salt
1 tsp salt
1 tsp garlic salt
6 cups milk
1 cup sour cream
10 strips crisp bacon-broken up
1/2 cup sliced green onions
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Bake potatoes at 350 for 65 to 75 minutes. Peel and dice. In a large saucepan or stock pot, melt butter. Stir in flour and seasonings and whisk 5-6 minutes. Slowly add milk. Slowly bring to boil. Mixture will thicken. Remove from heat. Add cheese, sour cream, onion, bacon and potatoes. Keep warm till potatoes are warmed through. Serve!

*Short cut--Use frozen "southern style" hasbrowns. You know the ones that are already diced.

The Giver

Not sure if I am to only person who reads this blog or not, but I thought I would post this for anyone who does.

May 10, that is next Tues night, I will be hosting book club at my house. This will be the first meeting. We are reading "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. It is a thought provoking book. And a Newbury Award winning book. And a quick read to boot.

It will start at 7:30pm. Okay, let's be honest. It will probably start about 8pm, but I am putting 7:30 as the starting time just in case you want to escape your house before bedtime and leave it to your Hubs to do. See, I am a Giver!

Hope to see you here!

If you need directions, you can email me stef-dot-burns-at-gmail-dot-com. Or you can look  me up in the ward directory, assuming that it is a new one with the new ward boundaries.

See ya Tues.

(ps If you haven't read the book, come anyway. Who doesn't love to talk!)
